U.S. Announces Modernization of National Park Entry System
According to a written Interior Department statement, America the Beautiful passes will now be offered digitally through Recreation.gov.
“These passes can be stored on mobile devices, linked to physical cards, and validated through updated tools at park entry points for quicker and smoother access,” the department said.
“These policies ensure that U.S. taxpayers, who already support the National Park System, continue to enjoy affordable access,” said Interior Secretary Doug Burgum. “President Trump’s leadership always puts American families first.”
Under the new pricing, annual passes will remain $80 for U.S. residents but will rise to $250 for nonresidents. International visitors without an annual pass will be charged $100 per person at 11 of the most heavily trafficked parks, in addition to the standard entrance fee.
To encourage domestic visitation, eight fee-free days for residents have been designated in 2026, including President’s Day (Feb. 16), Memorial Day (May 25), Flag Day (June 14), and the National Park Service’s 110th birthday (Aug. 25).
Passes will also debut new patriotic artwork showcasing American landscapes and heritage, available in both digital and physical formats.
Motorcycle riders will gain broader access, with each America the Beautiful pass now covering entry for two motorcycles, extending benefits to more riders and families.
Revenue generated from the updated pricing structure will be reinvested into national parks to fund facility improvements, maintenance, and enhanced visitor services, the Interior Department said.
